Folk at The Maltings Online with James Findlay and Maddie Morris
Folk at the Maltings returns to life in the form of online concerts, live screened from the performers’ homes.
The first features two award winning singers who were due to sing at The Maltings Theatre in May 2020, James Findlay and Maddie Morris.
James Findlay first came into the public eye after winning the 2010 BBC Young Folk award. James comes from a family of folk singers and his enthusiasm lies firmly within the English tradition. He is particularly passionate about songs from his home counties of Dorset and Somerset. He has toured and made three highly acclaimed solo albums and an album of songs from the ‘The New Penguin Book of English Folk Songs’ with Lucy Ward, Bella Hardy, Brian Peters and Jackie Oates. Since 2015, he has worked extensively as a musical director and actor in touring theatre.
Maddie Morris, 2019 BBC Young Folk award winner, has been described as “an outstanding singer leading the next generation of socially motivated songwriters”. She is a folk musician who uses traditional and contemporary folk song to create discussion and social commentary on big issues. Maddie started creating music as a way to express her experiences as a queer disabled woman, as “I didn’t feel like I could find music about people like me.”
