The Festival

The Maltings Theatre and OVO created The Roman Theatre Open Air Festival in 2014, bringing this unique and historic venue back to life, after it stood largely abandoned for many centuries.

As we now enter our seventh year, the festival is recognised as one of the UK’s leading outdoor theatre events. 2021 is our biggest and best festival yet with 14 shows, 8 companies and 69 performances presenting a diverse range of incredible theatre, opera and music over 7 weeks.

About

Peter Pan By J.M. Barrie
A new adaptation by Adam Nichols and Sophie Swithinbank

When the leader of the Lost Boys, Peter Pan, loses his shadow during a visit to London, headstrong Wendy helps him re-attach it.

In return, Peter invites Wendy to fly away with him to Neverland – a mystical world of mischievous lost children and boundless dreams, far beyond her urban reality.

But there’s danger lurking – it’s also a place of malicious mermaids, feisty fairies, fearsome female warriors and the vengeful and devious pirate Captain Hook. As well as a very hungry crocodile…

Can Wendy defeat them to save her new-found friends?

OVO presents a musical version of J.M. Barrie’s classic, much loved play, told with our customary irreverence and wit. With lashings of magic, mischief, music and make-believe – and just a little sprinkle of fairy dust – Peter Pan will be the most thrilling theatrical treat this summer.

£1 from every ticket purchased will be donated to Great Ormond Street Hospital, helping to support children’s healthcare and the efforts to find new and better ways to treat childhood illnesses.

Presented by arrangement with Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity and Concord Theatricals Ltd.

Reviews

“I can confidently say Felipe Pacheco gives the best version of Peter I’ve witnessed. I actually believe he is truly Peter Pan and not an actor at all. Flora Squires shines as the gentle, nurturing Wendy and impresses with some powerful vocals.”

Sardines Magazine

“The live music furnishes the production with a level of sophistication, the actors showcasing their various talents by ducking off stage between roles and picking up an accordion, saxophone or a pair of drum sticks.”

The Stage

“OVO is an extraordinary company and everyone is so multi-talented as actors, singers, dancers, and frequently musicians. A high energy and very sophisticated performance - I cannot recommend it highly enough.”
